Cabin Feature: Kaliningrad!

This month, our cabin spotlight is Kaliningrad! Kaliningrad is one of the cabins where campers live during the summer. The city of Kaliningrad, a Russian city that is not connected by land to Russia, is surrounded on either side between Poland and Lithuania and was originally the Prussian city of Königsberg. After a Soviet siege of the city during World War II, the city of Königsberg became a part of the Soviet Union and was officially renamed Kaliningrad. Because of its location on the Pregolya River which empties into an inlet of the Baltic Sea, Kaliningrad is the center of Russia’s Baltic Fleet. Because of its proximity to the European Union, much of Kaliningrad’s economy (which has been growing rapidly in recent decades) centers on trade. Kaliningrad is home to a number of museums, theaters, and parks. Immanuel Kant, the German philosopher, was born in what is now Kaliningrad, and there both a museum, the Immanuel Kant Museum, and university the Immanuel Kant State University of Russia named in honor of the philosopher.
