This webinar will help students, parents, and teachers understand how it works: the balance of academics and fun, the schedule, typical content and activities, and determination of class level. What do native US Spanish speakers believe about dialects of Spanish as spoken around the world? Are there dialects they believe are better or worse than others? What may be the reasons behind these beliefs? This webinar will explore these questions by presenting findings from studies that use methods from folk dialectology, a branch of linguistics. This session may be of particular interest to teachers who want to include more information about US Spanish in their courses and teachers of heritage Spanish speakers.

What comes to your mind when you are thinking about teaching culture in your Chinese classroom? Chinese New Year? Paper-cutting? Peking Opera? Dumplings? While those topics are truly very unique to the culture and easily designed, it is important to realize and reaffirm that much more culture exists beyond the realm of foods and festivals. In the webinar, we will rethink and explore Chinese culture and look at some examples of content-based, highly-interactive, provocative-yet-interesting ideas of "another culture in the classroom", while discussing how to integrate those ideas to your curriculum.
