At Concordia Language Villages the safety and well-being of our villagers, staff and volunteers have always been our first priority. As the COVID-19 pandemic evolves, we remain committed to protecting the health and wellbeing of our entire community.
The Health and Wellness Team supports a variety of programming at Concordia Language Villages including academic year and summer programs. For any residential program, families should carefully think through all of the following:
We expect that your child will be healthy upon arrival and ready to fully participate in the Village experience.
For all participants in our residential programs, we require proof of COVID-19 vaccination AND proof of a negative COVID-19 test within three days prior to arrival. More information can be found on our COVID-19 Approach page.
We reserve the right not to admit a person who poses a communicable illness threat. This includes head lice; the Language Villages has a “No Nit” policy.
Our program has a busy schedule filled with activities. Villagers live with eight or more people in a cabin and their Village environment mimics what it feels like to be in another country. Prepare your child so these experiences are exciting rather than intimidating.
The expertise of staff focuses on the target language, cultures that use that language and ways to engage children and youth in discovering the skills of global citizenship. Our staff from other countries may not be adept at understanding the subtleties of U.S. youth behavior.
Community living skills are new for many villagers. Your villager may appreciate knowing that his or her bedroom will be shared with many other people and everyone sleeps in bunk beds. Talk with your child about picking up personal items, the noises people make when they sleep and whether a top or bottom bunk would be best.
We want to partner with you to create the best experience possible for your child. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us. In our experience, it is most successful to have these conversations earlier rather than later.
On-Site Academic-Year Programs
Our Health and Wellness team will assist in gathering basic emergency contact and dietary information to help best accommodate you during your time on-site at the Villages.
For all 2020-2021 residential programs, we will require an additional COVID-19 prescreen prior to arrival and the following guidelines should be followed while on-site:
All participants are required to wear facial coverings, maintain spatial distancing and follow good respiratory and hand hygiene.
A small group or “pod” structure will be utilized.
Outdoor programming will be maximized — be sure to bring appropriate clothing!
On-Site Summer Programs
We're eagerly planning for summer 2022 at the Villages. As we get closer to summer we will update our finalized plans for COVID-19 mitigation. You can read about the layered strategy we successfully used for summer 2021 on our COVID-19 Approach page.
